Thank Your Senators

March 29, 2013 By Jonathan Ewing

Thanks to your help last week, several amendments that would have cut funding for the International Affairs Budget were defeated with bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate. One amendment that would have cut funding for the International Affairs Budget by a third was defeated 26-72. (Dive into our detailed analysis.)

More than 70 amendments kept the Senate in session until 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. Hundreds of USGLC members across the country made the calls and wrote the emails that helped save critical programs like export promotion, life-saving vaccines and security assistance. In the end, the Senate protected the FY14 International Affairs Budget from further cuts.

Here are two ways you can make sure America has the tools it needs to stay engaged in the world:

  1. Thank the Senators who voted for American leadership. Senators need to know that their constituents (you!) care about these issues.
  2. Sign up for email alerts. We’re always keeping an eye on Congress and the latest on global development; be the first to know what’s happening.
