In this era of increased global economic competitiveness, maximizing the tools of global economic diplomacy and development to advance U.S. economic and national security will be critical. The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is launching a new U.S. Global Economic Security Hub to fill in information gaps with new research, data, and other related content to policymakers and key and diverse influencers.

USGLC is seeking a Senior Fellow for Economic Security Policy to stand up and lead this critical new effort. Collaborating with the Global Policy Director and working closely across the organization as well as with other external stakeholders, the Senior Fellow will spearhead the new U.S. Global Economic Security Hub. This is an exciting position for a seasoned U.S. foreign policy professional with a deep focus in, expertise around, and established networks on national security and economic diplomacy, for a creative and entrepreneurial self-starter, and for a candidate who enjoys cross-departmental and cross-sectoral collaboration to direct, research, write, and build greater understanding and to make a compelling case for why and how economic security is national security. This is either a full or part-time position, for a Resident or Non-Resident Fellow, depending on the seniority and qualifications. The position is ideally based in Washington, D.C. and/or remote with frequent travel to headquarters and nationally as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide thought leadership and analysis:
  • Identify and drive policy priorities and content on the nexus between U.S. economic and national security issues, including, but not limited to, economic diplomacy; U.S. engagement in multilateral economic fora; technology and AI; development tools and other related issues;
  • Synthesize compelling and develop new research, publications, and data points on the impact of economic security and international economic policies on our nation’s security;
  • Continue to tailor research based on emerging events impacting U.S. security.
• Build opportunities and engagement on economic security is national security within and across the U.S. foreign policy discourse: 
  • Identify and engage bipartisan thought leadership among policymakers, think tank community, and other influentials, to shape the dialogues around how global economic policy impacts American economic and national security policy;
  • Convene policy discussions among stakeholders on related issues.
  • Collaborate with USGLC cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to amplify why and how economic security is impacting national security.
• Drive compelling messaging for maximum impact:
  • Lead cutting-edge messaging and content about economic and national security, and their relationship to development and diplomacy, for USGLC’s education and engagement platforms with policymakers in Congress, the Administration, and across the nation.
  • Work with the USGLC team to amplify messages across departments for maximum impact across the United States, in Washington D.C., and among various stakeholders in the private and public sectors.

Preferred Qualifications, Requirements & Attributes

• Established U.S. foreign policy professional with a strong background and network in national security and international economic policy, and ten years + experience.
• An advanced degree in international relations, economics or a related field of study. Practical experience may be substituted for industry experience in related national security, economics, or foreign policy.
• Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills.
• An excellent writer who can cater to multiple audiences. Must be able to break down and distill complicated policy issues to communicate with broader audiences.
• Ability to build coalitions, draw on existing networks, and work across multiple teams in fast-moving environments.
