WASHINGTON – The USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the House passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 State-Foreign Operations Appropriations bill:

The USGLC’s broad-based coalition of business, military, faith, and humanitarian leaders was founded nearly 30 years ago on the core principle that strategic, accountable, cost-effective investments in development and diplomacy are essential to advance America’s security, economic prosperity, and values.

Time and again, these relatively small investments pay significant dividends for Americans, from stopping threats before they reach our shores to preventing the conflicts of today from becoming the crises of tomorrow to strengthening U.S. economic security.

Now more than ever, America’s adversaries and competitors are playing to win – threatening U.S. interests and influence across the globe. At the same time, there are growing urgent and compelling humanitarian needs from Sudan to Gaza to Haiti.

While we remain concerned by the overall funding level in the House proposal and some of the other cutting amendments, we appreciate that a strong bipartisan majority rejected other devastating cuts to critical diplomatic, economic, development, and humanitarian assistance that is delivering results for American families.

As the appropriations process moves forward, our coalition will continue to engage with bipartisan Members of Congress and the Administration on a bipartisan agreement that promotes American interests through strengthened investments in our civilian development and diplomacy tools.
