Bios

Senator Jeff Flake

Senator Flake was elected to the Senate in 2012 and serves as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy. He supports global engagement and has said that “foreign assistance is a critical and necessary component of American diplomacy, which safeguards national security interests.” Prior to the Senate, he served 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Senator Flake has lived in Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa and speaks fluent Afrikaans. He and his family live in Mesa, AZ.

General William “Kip” Ward

Lt. General William “Kip” E. Ward, USA (Ret.) served as the first commander of U.S. Africa Command from 2007-2011. During his 40 years of service he held several senior positions, including Deputy Commander of U.S. European Command, Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, and Commander of the Stabilization Force in Bosnia. Today he serves as the President and COO of SENTEL Corporation and is a member of USGLC’s National Security Advisory Council.
