Business and NGO Leaders to Serve as Co-Presidents

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Campaign (USGLC) is pleased to announce the election of Bill Lane, Washington Director for Government Affairs at Caterpillar, and Nancy Lindborg, President of Mercy Corps, as the new Board Co-Presidents. Few organizations can claim such a unique leadership structure, where recognized leaders in the business and NGO community work side by side in support of greater investments for U.S. international programs. Former President George Ingram will serve as Chairman of the Board.

“In my thirty year career in government and non-profits, I have never seen such a unique and representative Board leadership at the helm of a major Washington coalition,” said George Ingram, Chairman of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign. “The election of two recognized leaders from the business and NGO communities reflects the ‘strange bedfellows’ that make up the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign. It is one of the most innovative leadership structures that I am aware of in our community and represents the common mission and strong partnership between our business and NGO members.”

The U.S. Global Leadership Campaign is a broad-based, nationwide coalition of businesses, non-governmental organizations and community leaders that advocates for a strong U.S. International Affairs Budget. Members of the USGLC – a vibrant, influential network of 400 organizations and thousands of individuals – engage policymakers in the nation’s capital and educate the public around the country to build support for these essential programs.

“The days of ‘Trade Not Aid’ are over,’ Bill Lane, Co-President of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign said. “While supporting open markets, the business community understands the link between a robust International Affairs Budget and a safer, more prosperous world.”

“The funds provided by the International Affairs Budget are essential to the efforts of the NGO community that works to empower men and women abroad to build a better, brighter future for themselves and their children,” stated Nancy Lindborg, Co-President of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign. “As members of the USGLC, the business and NGO communities speak together with a stronger voice for U.S. global engagement and foreign assistance.”

The International Affairs Budget provides America with the fundamental tools to meet the global challenges of the 21st century and is critical to protecting our national security, building economic prosperity and strengthening our humanitarian values. Currently, the FY 2008 International Affairs Budget totals 34.3 billion dollars and provides the U.S. with invaluable opportunities to generate much needed allies, partners and friends.
