Following a March organizing meeting, South Carolina business and NGO leaders joined to form the 16th USGLC State Steering Committee. The steering committee will reach out to prominent local leaders, community organizers, educators, and faith-based leaders to educate policymakers and the public about the importance of U.S. global engagement for South Carolina, as well as the rest of the nation.

“We are excited that South Carolina’s business and community leaders are leading the way to ensure that America has the necessary tools to address the global challenges of the 21st century,” said Liz Schrayer, Campaign Director of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign. “The new State Steering Committee will join 15 other steering committees around the country as a vital part of the USGLC’s broad-based, nationwide network of businesses, non-governmental organizations and individuals.”

Together, the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign (USGLC) and the South Carolina State Steering Committee – led by Eugene Corrigan, Jr. of FLOW, Inc., Betty Houbion of ReZolve, LLC, and Newman Jackson Smith with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP – will work to raise awareness of the positive impact of the U.S. International Affairs Budget on the local economy and community.

Many South Carolina businesses and citizens are the direct recipients of benefits from the International Affairs Budget. As the global marketplace expands and evolves, it is essential for local businesses to support and take advantage of the tools and opportunities provided by the International Affairs Budget. The budget funds export promotion tools, advocates for American businesses overseas, opens markets for South Carolina exports and creates local jobs.
