Washington, DC—The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition today announced former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has joined its National Advisory Council, which is chaired by Colin Powell and includes every other living former Secretary of State as members.
“Throughout her entire political life as First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has been a tireless supporter of the International Affairs Budget and the importance of global development and diplomacy,” said Executive Director Liz Schrayer. “We look forward to having her leadership and expertise as we promote the importance of U.S. global engagement to our national security and economic prosperity.”
Secretary Clinton has appeared numerous times at USGLC events, and in speaking about the organization in 2009, she said, “In the past decade, the coalition has come to occupy a critical space in the foreign policy arena. You really have been pioneers in combining the expertise and talent of the private sector and NGOs to help better balance our approach to foreign policy and our nation’s security.”
Known as the “coalition of strange bedfellows,” the USGLC brings together corporations and non-governmental organizations from Caterpillar to CARE, Walmart to World Vision, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to Save the Children, along with a distinguished group of bipartisan leaders, all dedicated to enhancing our civilian-led tools of development and diplomacy in promoting our nation’s interests in the world.
