WASHINGTON – U.S. Global Leadership Coalition President and CEO Liz Schrayer issued the following statement on the passing of USGLC Board Member Michael Gerson:
It is with great sadness that the entire USGLC community learns of the passing of Michael, an extraordinary soul whose deep faith and belief in America as a force for good in the world made us all better people and better citizens. When it comes to the fight against HIV/AIDS and global poverty around the world, few have done more to literally save lives through their words and actions.
USGLC was honored to have Michael’s leadership as a member of our Board of Directors over the past decade, where he constantly reminded us of America’s generous spirit. I treasured his wise counsel, his kindness, and his commitment to our shared mission to ensure America’s global leadership through diplomacy and development. And I was deeply grateful for his principled voice of conscience in the pages of the Washington Post.
Michael’s last gift to USGLC was inspiring our Tribute Celebration this year where we will pay tribute to President Bush and Mrs. Bush on World AIDS Day for their legacy on PEPFAR at its 20th anniversary, a program he was instrumental in launching and shaping.
He left us all too early and will be in our hearts as we pay tribute to his life’s work this December 1st.
