WASHINGTON, D.C. – Liz Schrayer, President and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) released the following statement on the selection of Senator John Thune (R-SD) as the new Senate Majority Leader for the 119th Congress:
USGLC congratulates Senator John Thune on his new leadership role in the U.S. Senate at this consequential moment of converging global treats from our rivals—Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea—that directly impact America’s economic and security interests here at home. As a longtime champion for America’s global leadership, Senator Thune understands why leading globally matters to our economic and security interests and has been steadfast in his efforts to making the world a better, safer place.
USGLC was proud to host Senator Thune at a Townhall conversation earlier this year in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, alongside a packed audience of business, agriculture, military, and faith leaders from across the state about America’s role in the world. Senator Thune stressed, “This is about our grandkids and making sure they can live in a safe, prosperous, stable world. And in order for that to happen, America’s got to be in a leadership role. American retreat is not an option if we want a better future.”
Senator Thune has dedicated his career to advancing strategic investments in the civilian tools of national security—development and diplomacy—alongside a strong defense. Through his advocacy for aid programs that promote economic stability in developing nations, his support for diplomatic initiatives to tackle global challenges, and his commitment to strengthening U.S. alliances, Senator Thune has shown a steadfast dedication to protecting and promoting American interests. We look forward to collaborating with him in his new role as he continues this vital work.
